Developing an Hand Atlas from Cone-Beam CT Images of Healthy Hands

Methodology and Goals
This project involves the development of an atlas of a healthy adult hand from cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans. This atlas provides a standardized 3D reference for the carpal, metacarpal, and proximal phalangeal bones. Built using iterative groupwise deformable registration, the atlas was quantitatively validated against population shape metrics and demonstrated high accuracy for atlas-based bone segmenrtation. This hand atlas will serve as an anatomical prior to understand deviations from healthy bone morphology, forming the foundation for atlas-guided erosion analysis in rheumatoid arthritis.
